Tidel TACC III Depository Safe

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Tidel TACC III cash management safe. Also know as a depository safe.  This model is the next one up from the Tidel Tacc II a.  For those that want a little more control of the money.  Tidel Safes have been made famous because of their relationship with 7-11 convience stores.  Many of the orginal models from the eighties are still in use today.  You can’t say that about other computer based anything!  Tidel tells me that over 80% of convience stores use one of their TACC models today.

The TACC III combines the TACC IIa platform with expanded audit trail and reporting through an all new PIN based tracking system.

The touchscreen interface allows managers and clerks to quickly record deposits and make change while keeping an accurate count on each days transactions. Making close out at the end of the day much faster.

Through the wall Deposit Safe Pro-2225k

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Are you looking for a “through the wall drop safe?” Well, this is it!  I don’t mean it like this is the best one. I mean like…This is it! The only one! Sort of..there are not many of these out there.  They don’t make them in China real cheap. This is made in the USA. So its a  bit pricey.  However, I have never a negative remark on this model of depository safe.

This comes with a choice of three lock styles. Key, Combo dial, or Electronic Keypad. You will see it reflected in the model number. Pro-2225k (keys), Pro-2225c (combo dial), and Pro-2225e (electronic keypad).  This depository safe is B Rated and designed to be bolted down to the foundation.

Note that the shoot is adjustable and I recomend the mailbox slot cover to on the other side of the wall.  Anit fish baffel keeps people from “fishing” money out through the drop safe shoot.

Drop Safe SDS-01k and Depository Safe SDS-01c Review

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

Drop Safe SDS-01k and Depository Safe SDS-01c are the same safe with the difference being how they lock. Both Depository Safes have a B Rating which is important if I’m going to put my money in it.  Also have drill resistant hardplate in the door with 4 holes in the bottom for bolting to the foundation.  Don’t fear bolting down. Its easy and quick to do. I even have a paper on our homepage that tells how I do it.

The big difference is the “K” stands for keys and the “C” stands for Combo.  The key version is just like on a safety deposit box at the bank. It will require two keys. One called a manager key and one called the guard key.

The safe comes with a mailbox type drop that is armed with anti fish baffle.  They look alot like shark teeth on the inside the safe.  Very good at catching people sticking a coat hanger with something sticky on the end and not letting it go.

These two drop safe models are one of the most popular sizes for drop safes in the industry.  They fit cash drawers very well and hold up against pry bar attacks and burglar attacks with all the endurance of the Everyready battery bunnie.

Drop Safe Depository Safe Models RC-01k & RC-01c

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Drop Safe Depository Safe Models RC-01k & RC-01c are the same safe but with different locks.  The “K” stands for key and “C” stands for combination style lock.  Many depository safes come with a choice of a dual key model or a combination model.  The combination model can also be upgraded to an electronic keypad for faster entry to the drop safe.  However, the key model can not be upgraded to an electronic keypad because of the way the bolt work is set up to take the dual key lock.

You will notice that it is a rotary hopper design.  Which means put what you want in the top round tube then roll the handle and it will drop down below.  Many depository safe makers believe that this is a better system to prevent theft from fishing.  Which is taking a coat hanger and putting something on the end to make it sticky and “fishing” out dollor bills.  Which I will grant you it does prevent that VERY well.  However, there is a negative side to this type of system.

If you try to deposit something light, such as a single piece of paper, it may not fall out of the cylinder to the safe below.  Because there is not enough weight in it.  The other thing I have noticed also is that some people may have a large deposit that they want to drop and they will cram it into the cylinder.  Then when they rotate it and want it to drop it won’t because its cramed in too tight to fall below.  So you see, even Superman has kryptonite!

It is a very well made B Rated with drill resistant hard plate in the door and 2 1/2 inch thick door.  Solid steel body and an extra 1/2 inch steel plate for the door.  Take the extra step to bolt this to your floor and you have a fantastic depository safe that is ready for almost anything.

The lock on this unit is a Sargent & Greenleaf dial which is one of the best locks available in the world. Made in Kentucky by real American hands!

I give this drop safe a good thumbs up.

Best Seller in Depository Safe and Drop Safe SDS-01k

Friday, June 13th, 2008

The model SDS-01k and the SDS-01c are the same depository safe.  The “K” stands for key operated and the “C” stands for Dial Combination.  But other than that the bolt work is the same.  The B Rated is the same with 1/4 inch steel walls and a minimum of 1/2 inch steel door. But it doesn’t stop there.

There is also drill resistant hardplate over the lock to protect it from “Expert thieves”.  Which I have never been to a crime scene nor heard of anyone that has had a safe drilled open by a thief!  So my guess is that the hardplate is really there to agravate the locksmiths like myself.   After all that steel you get to the bolt assembly.  Which there are 3 active bolts keeping the door shut and bolts on the hinge side incase the hinges are grinded off.

The SDS-01c or k are made to resist a crowbar attack much longer than a standard fireproof safe.  So feel comfortable about leaving cash in this drop safe for overnight storage.

Very popular for small business to medium size business and churchs.  One last item, you can also add an electronic keypad to the Dial Combination model…the SDS-01C….

Tidel Safe “The Superman of Depository Safes”

Tidel Safe Tac II a, Tac III, and Tac V safes are the “Superman” of depository safes. MH10K Drop or Depository Safe

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Model MH10K Drop Safe is designed for undercounter use.  Quick rotary drop top.  Why would you want a top drop rotary hopper safe or a front loading mailbox drop safe?  I honestly don’t know.  The industry came out with these things and many believe that is is more secure when compared to a mailbox type drop. But I’m not so sure.  I think they are both very secure against theft.  So I will leave this one to the designers of drop safes.

Dual key lock allows for accountability to the opening of the safe.  It does require both keys to be present for the safe to be unlocked.  Bolt this safe to any flat suface to avoid it being carried off by a thief and you have an excellant and secure drop safe.  It is important to point out that this model is not B Rated. (B for burglary) This is for insurance purposes but over all its a very good safe.

Drop Safes model DS-1K and DS-1D

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Drop Safes model DS-1K and DS-1D is the very same  model.  The name is used generically and made by several manufactures in several countries.  You will see prices on these all over the place.  Best to check the weight and where they are made and the lock.  Ours weighs in at 47 lbs.  Which is a hefty little beast for its size.  It does have anti fish baffel and can be bolted to the floor.  Very popular drop safe in the small range of drop safes.  The DS-1k and the DS-1D are the same safe. The “K” model means it uses keys and the “D” model means it comes with a dial.

Please note that larger drop safes are B Rated but this one is NOT.  The manufacturer does not officially recomend storing of cash in the safe overnight due to it not being B Rated.  However, many folks do just that.  The lock is a standard dual key just like a safety deposit box in the bank.  Also includes 2 mgr keys and 1 guard key.  I recomend ordering an extra gaurd key if you buy this model. That way you have two complete sets of keys.  The DS-1k does need both the guard and mgr key to open.  This adds accountablity to the opening of the safe.  Very important feature when it comes to the prevention of internal theft in any company. See our video on the drop safes page with my demo of how the lock works. DS-1K video and DS-1D and more drop safes.

Drop Safe Model MS2K

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

The model MS2K drop safe is the same as the MS2D. Exept the “K” stands for keys and the “D” stands for dial.  Great little drop safe.  Weighs in at 30lbs so there is a good amount of steel.  It can be bolted to any flat surface.  Excellant for quick drop cash as well as a variety of other items.  The manufacturer does not recomend the overnight storage of cash in the drop safe as it is not a B rated safe.  More on B Rated drop safes when we get to the bigger models.

The dial can have the combination change by any locksmith.  But to rekey the twin key model MS2K it will take a more knowledgable locksmith to do that. But by having a drop safe that requires two seperate keys you add alot of accountability to the safe.  If the money isn’t there when both are present than it was never put inside!  Sounds obvious but there will be come clerk someplace that will swear he put the money inside and it must have evaporated.

Over all its a great little drop safe.

Depository Safe

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Depository Safe model MS1K is a slightly stronger model than the SDB drop safes.  A good way to get an idea of what you are buying when you are comparing depository safe models is to look at the weight of the safe.  If they look like the same size but your not sure how its made.  Always check the weight.  I have seen some models that look the same but the weight will vary by as much as 50%.  That 50% is pure steel that you want in your depository safe.  So file that away in the back of your mind as you are looking.

The MS1k is good little depository safe but its not high security or B rated.  It main function is to keep small amounts of cash over night or for truck drivers or bartenders to do quick drops of cash that will be retrived at the end of a shift.

This depository safe bolts to any flat surface on the bottom to keep people from lifting the money and carrying it away.

I would love to see this type of depository safe used for collecting tips in coffee shops and small restaurants.  I was actually in a coffee house in Pensacola Florida one time several years ago.  Enjoying my after lunch coffee and reading my book when a man walked in and started chatting to the woman behind the counter.  He distracted her and when she turned around he took most of the money from the tip jar and went to the bathroom.  Came out in a few minutes and told her never mind as he headed toward the door.  I stopped him and made him return the money after a very big scene.  The poor woman behind the counter didn’t understand what I was making a big fuss about until he pulled out several wads of cash from his pockets and left it on the counter.

A small but secure drop safe or “tip jar depository safe” would have kept this from happening.  Take a look at tip jars the next time you are inside a place like that.  You will find they are VERY easy to stick a hand inside and take all the money.  A Starbuck’s Coffee in my area has a tip jar on the ledge in a drive through window.  Cash sticks out all over the place.  Just asking for someone to take it.  Don’t let this happen in your business.
