Lets talk about the SB-06c from Cobalt Safes. Fireproof Safe. Burglary Safe. One of the largest in this section! Cobalt Safes model SB-06c Fireproof Safe with Burglary Safe. Has a lifetime fire warrenty and a 5 year warrenty against manufactures defects in labor and materials. This is an extremely good warrenty in that most manufactures will cover similar but Cobalt Safes goes the extra mile and sends a locksmith to your location to repair. Most manufactures are also only 1 year in coverage. With that being said. Keypads are an upgrade and are only warrentied for 1 year. (for more information on keypads vs dials see my article… Keypads vs Dials.
Back to the SB-06c. First take a look at the door, you will see that it is open. There are two major parts, an outer door and then a bolt assembly behind it. This gives it a solid 5 inch thick door on the Cobalt Safe SB-06c. Take into consideration that when the average thief breaking into the average home. He is coming into the house with empty hands and wants to leave with them full. Chances of him bringing tools such as a crowbar or sledge hammers are not the norm. If he does find the safe he will most likely be too unprepared to even beat on it and will quickly move to everything else we leave available in our homes that is easy to pocket and easy to pawn. For most of us its a pretty big list.
Lets pretend we left a crow bar and sledge hammer next to our safe and a small sticky note that says “beat me” on the safe. The SB-06c fireproof safe is going to hold up. The outer steel wall, which is an extreme thickness of about 1/8 inch steel is reinforced by a cement based fireproof wall with another steel wall on the interior. This makes for excellant strength against common tools.
The 5 inch thick door is also too thick to get a crow bar down deep enough to actually gain enough purchase to even begin to start using a crow bar on the door. So in my opinion the SB-06c Fire Safe is one of the best buys on the market today.
Combine this with a 2 hour fireproof and a center bolt down (so the safe can’t picked up and carried away) for a sturdy little fortress of protection. Not that someone is going to carry away a 1000 lbs safe!
I also like the size. Though it may be too large for most home situations it does offer good room to grow into. The last thing most of want to do is purchase two safes. I often advise to purchase 1 during your life. But make it something you can grow into because this safe is designed to last a lifetime. Last little note, as we get older, people hate to bend down or squat down. This model is excellant to stand in front of an open without having to bend over. See more details our Cobalt Safe SB-06c.

First, sorry about the quality of the picture. The above pic is actually a picture of the SB-02C. Which is identical to the SB-03c but the SB-03c is taller.
Cobalt Safes model SB-03c Fireproof Safe with Burglary Safe. Has a lifetime fire warrenty and a 5 year warrenty against manufactures defects in labor and materials. This is an extremely good warrenty in that most manufactures will cover similar but Cobalt Safes goes the extra mile and sends a locksmith to your location to repair. Cobalt Safes model SB-02c Fire Safe /Burglary Safe. Comes with a lifetime fire warrenty plus a 5 year warrenty against manufactures defects in labor and materials. This is a very good warrenty in that most manufactures will cover similar but Cobalt Safes goes the extra mile and sends a locksmith to your location to repair.
Lets start at the door of the safe. There is an outer door and then a bolt assembly behind it. This makes for a hefty 5 inch thick door on the SB-02c. When we examine the average thief breaking into the average home. He is coming into the house with empty hands and wants to leave with them full. Chances of him bringing a crow bar or sledge hammer are slim to none. If he does find the safe he will most likely be too unprepared to even beat on it and will quickly move to everything else we leave available in our homes that is easy to pocket and easy to pawn.

Combine this with a 2 hour fireproof and a center bolt down (so the safe can’t be picked up and carried off) and its looking even better to me.
But wait, it gets better! The lock is a Sargent & Greenleaf group II dial lock. Made in the state of Kentucky by real American hands. The design and quality of these locks last for 100 years (warrenty is only like 5 but they are very well built). Includes an extra sensative “glass relocker” on the safe to keep out the intelligent thief that may show up with better tools than a crow bar and hammers.
Last I want to point out the hinges. Notice they are of a monsterous design. That is because these are ball bearing hinges just like you see in bank vaults. These keep the door from sagging after decades of use.

The SB-01c Fire Safe /Burglary Safe. Is made by Cobalt Safes. Comes with a 5 year warrenty plus a lifetime warrenty for fire. Though the picture is not the best here you should still be able to see what I’m going to point out to you.
First look at the door. There is an outer section and then a bolt assembly behind it. This makes the SB-01c door about 5 inches thick overall. When we examine the average thief breaking into the average home. He is coming into the house with empty hands and wants to leave with them full. Chances of him bringing a crow bar or sledge hammer are slim to none. If he does find the safe he will most likely be too unprepared to even beat on it and will quickly move to everything else we leave available in our homes to steal.
But lets say you left the family crow bar and sledge hammer next to it and a small sticky note that says “beat me” on the safe. The SB-01c is going to hold up like a champ. The outer steel wall is reinforced by a cement based fireproof wall with another steel wall on the interior. This makes for excellant strength.
The 5 inch thick door is also too thick to get a crow bar down deep enough to actually gain enough purchase to even begin to start using a crow bar on the door. So in my opinion the SB-01c is one of the best buys on the market today.
Toss in a 2 hour fireproofing with a center bolt down (so the safe can’t be picked up and carried off) and its looking even better to me.

I honestly feel that this safe, as well as the rest of the SB line, is built to pass along to the grandkids in a few decades from now. Take a closer look for more details or to purchase at SB-01c.

Cobalt Safe model SS-031D. Is the most popular in the line up of Fireproof Home Safes. Its also the largest. Why is it so popular? I’m not 100% sure. But the comments I get on it range from “Most size for money”, “Pull out drawer and adjustable shelf”, “Its big but its not too cumbersome”.
I will say this, the picture is a fairly acurate picture of the safe except you can’t see the black pull out tray that is also included. You can see the adjustable shelf with the door open. You also get a good view of the bolts on the door opening side. However, there are also fixed bolts on the hinge side to add support and strength against crow bar attacks. Though its primary purpose is not strength against burglary but it is strength against fire! A solid 1 hour fire rating.
The Cobalt Safe SS-031D is steel lined hole in the bottom of the safe to bolt down to your foundation to keep the safe from being carried off. It is important to note that when you buy a safe you are buying “Time” time against fire and time against theft. If you live in a high crime area and you want to keep 50k of cash and jewelry in this safe, then this is not the safe for you. This safe is made it hold important papers, some cash, some jewelry, a pistol or other medium size items. It will hold up against a prybar attack in that it would be classified as “resistant” but not for an extended period. You will notice I like to “under sell” most safes. Which means I’m not going to push a safe like some kind of late night infomercial selling Ginsu Chopping Knives! But hopefully give you as realistic picture of the safe and its intended purpose.
That being said this is an excellant Fire safe to protect against fire and protect against “light” theft or sticky fingers as I like to say. Go here to see a model SS-031D or the rest of the fireproof home safes.

I have been getting a lot of questions in regards to safes and quality of different brands. So I am taking some time to address a well known brand. Sentry Safe.
Many of Sentry Safes products are good to fair quality at a really great price. Please keep in mind what they are advertised for and how they should be used is sometimes two different things. What absolutely blows my bannanas is when a customer carrys their Sentry “burglar/fireproof” safe by the handle into the shop and say they need it open right away because they lost the keys.
First notice they CARRIED it into the shop! The only thing “buglar safe” on this is that the burglar will not hurt himself when he walks out with all your stuff in a neat and handy carry all container!
Second their jaw hits the floor when I am able to pick the lock by putting almost anything into the keyhole and jiggling it. When the dial or keypad break it takes only a couple of seconds with a medium crow bar to open the safe. Customers are shocked when they watch me do this.
On a positive note they are fireproof but just read the fine print on duration of fireproofing. I will often suggest using a Sentry fireproof safe inside a larger safe to act as a “cooler” to keep data and media protected from fire. Putting a small Sentry inside a 350 degree fire rated safe will add the extra protection to your media related material. Cd’s, harddrives, and other computer related material like to stay at 125 degrees and will be lost or coorupted at higher temperatures.
One last item in regards to quality. I talked with a man that owned a nursery and kept the business books, some cash, and papers in a Sentry Safe. He said he has been through 3 Sentry Safes in the last 10 years. He liked them because of the price. After discussing how much he paid for the 3 safes and how he uses them, we came to the conclusion that it would have been more affordable if he had only bought 1 good quality commercial safe.
